Letters From North America by Peary Perry
After reading this prepared statement Mrs. R-Jones refused all further questions, turned abruptly and got into a small green, foreign car with a dent on the right rear fender and a smiley face bumper sticker. She was last seen headed north trying to merge onto the freeway. End of message. Well, there you have it. My initial entry into presidential politics was cut short. I was about to announce my desire to become another candidate. After much thought I have obviously had to put my own personal desires, and wishes, and thoughts, and plans and hoping and dreaming (this could be a song) aside for the benefit of my fellow Americans. I sincerely feel that there will probably be enough candidates without me, but I was willing to help our country in any way that I can. Anything for our country is my motto. I have still not ruled out the thought of running for President of a small (-unnamed) island in the Caribbean, which has nearly 372 citizens and 46 Angora goats. They will need someone to lead them into the 21st century as well as help them get into buying things on the Internet. After having long conversations with myself, which caused a lot of people to move to other tables in the places I was having lunch, I decided that trying to raise the necessary $75-$80 million dollars in campaign funds was going to be difficult. My Visa cards are just about maxed out so, that puts me a definite disadvantage starting off. I also needed a larger staff of volunteers to help me get the word out in all of the 48 states. I decided early on that I can´t afford to travel on campaigns to Alaska and Hawaii, so I just didn´t see how I could expect to capture those states and their interest. This has been a time of personal introspection for me. I have learned how to get inside of my mind and reflect on just what I think I should do with my life for the good of this nation. I have decided that not being a public servant is the best thing for me and all of my potential constituents. Now, having said all of this, it occurs to me that since I have officially declared myself as a candidate and then removed myself from the election process, am I still eligible to receive campaign funds from the government? I would think that since it costs lots of big dollars to run a campaign, then I should be eligible to receive maybe just a measly 1or 2 million for my failed effort. After all, my heart was in the right place and I did have the countries best interests at heart. This political stuff is hard on you. I need to take a vacation; maybe I can get invited to that small island I mentioned earlier. Can you run a political race for King? King Perry 1 has a good ring to it, doesn´t it? |
