Letters From North America by Peary Perry
Well, it´s that time of the year again. Christmas. Time for the charge cards to go up and cards and letters to be written. Now, we have all seen and received one of those annual Christmas letters from someone we all know and love. You know the kind I´m talking about. Those that are printed or copied on colored paper or have some snow scene attached. These people send them out to their 500 closest friends to kind of provide an annual update of just what has happened to them in the past twelve months. It seems that most of the things they have experienced are wonderful, marvelous and just plain great. There isn´t any mention of any real bad stuff occurring, just wonderful, marvelous, great things. Sometimes it´s almost like they are sticking out their tongues at us and saying "Na, Na, Na, Na" or something like that. Anyway, for those of you that don´t have the time to make up your own WONDERFUL, MARVELOUS, GREAT Christmas letter, I am giving you one to use for your very own. All you have to do is to fill in the blanks and then make some copies at the office. Then stuff in your own envelopes and mail, and who´ll be the wiser? So here goes:
Dear______________________________,
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from our family to yours. I just wanted to take a few minutes out of my busy schedule to fill you in on what has happened in our family since I wrote to you last year. As you know I was promoted to__________________at the __________________company. My salary was increased by nearly _______________________per year. We are all so pleased and can now afford to buy the new ____________________________we have been wanting. My spouse received a huge bonus of _________________as well. Aren´t we lucky? You may have read the papers and noticed that I was awarded the _________________for my work in ______________________. It was really a nice surprise. All of the kids are fine. I think I told you last year that _____________got accepted to _______________college and is now tops in __________class. We just moved into our new house. Our old one was bought by a real estate developer who needed the property for a new mall. It was very timely since we had outgrown the old one anyway. It looks like they are getting to drill for _______________on the new property. I suppose it will be a mess around here for a few months, but will be worth it. We are going to take a trip to __________after Christmas. We plan on staying for at least ___________________. We want to retire there in a few ___________. Life is just so hectic, what with all of the talk shows wanting us after the publication of our new book called _______________________. It was on the best seller list for nearly __________weeks. I hope you read it. I have lost nearly ___________pounds on the new diet I developed. I can now jog at least __________miles each morning after I make breakfast and lunches for all of our kids and those at the ____________mission and school for homeless children. My art lessons are really paying off. So far this year I have sold nearly ____________paintings. Well, enough about us. We hope your family is doing well and that you have a wonderful, marvelous and great holiday. We will. Would love to see you, call us before you come so we can check and see if we will be available. Our love to all.
Now, next week I think I´ll try my hand at writing one that is real and that encompasses the things that actually happen in our lives. Maybe not, we have to live it. Be careful and stay warm. |
