A Nation of Fools
By Peary Perry
When you
think about it, Paul Revere had it fairly
easy. I mean all he had to do was to ride
several miles across the countryside and
yell out… ‘The British are coming….the
British are coming.” His message of an
impending invasion was received by the
masses of the day and….well… you know the
result.
In our hustle and hurry world of today, it
isn’t quite this easy is it? For one thing a
large portion of our masses either choose to
disregard the messages being sent out
concerning the current invasion or they are
so brain washed they have burrowed down into
their holes and refuse to look beyond their
noses.
The invasion I speak of is the invasion of
our rights as citizens of this nation. We
have (or at least some of us have) elected a
president who has no shame in signing away
these rights on a daily basis. Take today’s
executive order de jure, allowing the world
wide police agency known as Interpol to
operate without limitations or audit rights
freely within the borders of the United
States. They are immune from taxation or
from scrutiny or any type of United States
governmental inspection of the documents and
information it may gather on US citizens.
This is just what we need, some group of
French policemen knocking on our doors in
the middle of night because of a delinquent
traffic ticket we failed to pay in Paris. I
must have dropped off to sleep when the news
came on tonight, since I failed to hear
anything about this and I would suspect you
missed it as well.
Another item that might be of interest to
you and one that I will bet fails to make it
into your news sources is the fact that the
president has signed another executive order
allowing Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae to
receive as much money from the federal
government as they wanted. Their previous
limit had been set at only 200 billion, now
they can have as much as they want. The
analogy for this was explained in this way:
The administration said it was removing the
caps to "leave no uncertainty about the
Treasury's commitment to support these firms
as they continue to play a vital role in the
housing market during this current crisis."
Of course the fact that the policies and
actions of these two firms regarding unsound
lending practices is what led to their
failure in the first place doesn’t seem to
enter the equation. Damn the torpedoes, full
speed ahead.
Let’s see….oh yes, the underwear bomber….the
country where he first boarded his
flight…Yemen has now announced they have no
money for security and need some additional
help and assistance. I feel certain we’ll
see Sect. of State Clinton announce a
package of several billion more bucks to
assist this poor nation as it struggles to
fight terrorists in the same manner as it
did with the participants who bombed the USS
Cole. Another fact you probably dosed off on
was that two men suspected of assisting the
panty bomber had been confined at Guantanamo
Bay detention facility and then released (by
the Bush administration) They were released
and forced, yes forced to undergo art
therapy in Saudi Arabia. Where you
listening? I said ART therapy.
Listen to this:
‘Two of the four leaders allegedly behind
the al Qaeda plot to blow up a Northwest
Airlines passenger jet over Detroit were
released by the U.S. from the Guantanamo
prison in November, 2007, according to
American officials and Department of Defense
documents. American officials agreed to send
the two terrorists to Saudi Arabia where
they entered into an “art therapy
rehabilitation program” and were set free,
according to U.S. and Saudi officials. One
program gives the former detainees paints
and crayons as part of the rehabilitation
regimen. Saudi officials concede its program
has had its “failures” but insist that,
overall, the effort has helped return
potential terrorists to a meaningful life.’
I’m certain all of us can agree that taking
highly trained suicide killers and making
them spend hours doing finger painting and
coloring between the lines is just what is
needed to correct uncivilized behavior. I am
certain Charles Manson would have been
released by now if he were only given a new
box of crayons. He should (and probably
will) sue. I wouldn’t be surprised to see
one of the rehabilitees show up on Oprah
telling the nation how his life was changed
for the good by the time he had finished his
first paint-by-numbers canvas.
Heaven help us all……more to come…
